Solace App Case Study

Solace
Mental Health App
UX/UI Design

Solace is a transformative mobile app designed to enhance mental health and well-being. With a user-centric approach, Solace offers a comprehensive range of activities, tools, therapy options, and progress monitoring features. From breathing exercises to guided meditation, self-care ideas to online therapy, Solace provides a holistic platform for users to manage their mental health effectively. â€‹

With its intuitive UX/UI design, Solace aims to make mental health support accessible, engaging, and impactful for everyone. This project is the result of extensive research on users' needs, and challenges in managing their mental health.

Design Thinking Process

In this project, I applied the design thinking process, following each stage from start to finish—empathizing with users, defining the problem, ideating solutions, prototyping, and testing.

Throughout the process, I consistently revisited each stage, ensuring that the final outcome met user needs and aligned with the project goals. This iterative approach allowed for flexibility and constant improvement.

User Interviews Insights

User interviews provided rich qualitative insights across a wide range of ages, from 18 to 45. Younger participants, aged 18-25, expressed a need for quick, accessible coping mechanisms, favoring breathing exercises and affirmations. They valued features that provided content and tips for maintaining mental well-being. Other participants, aged 30-45, emphasized the importance of structured routines and found value in daily challenges and progress tracking. They also expressed the need for practical tools to manage stress in their busy lives, valuing features like personalized reminders.

User Surveys Insights

Through user surveys, we gained valuable insights into the mental health landscape. 85% of respondents were familiar with mental health apps, with 65% actively using them. When asked about the most effective therapy activities, 45% believed in the power of guided meditation, while 30% favored cognitive behavioral therapy exercises.

Empathy Mapping

Thinks: Users believe that mental health apps should offer customizable features to tailor the experience to their specific needs. Users also think that mental health apps should prioritize privacy and security to ensure their personal information is protected. They believe that apps should offer a variety of therapy options to cater to different preferences and needs. Additionally, users think that apps should provide reliable and evidence-based information to help them make informed decisions about their mental health

Says: "I would like to customize activities in a mental health app and have mood checkups," expressed one user, highlighting the need for personalized experiences. Another user stated, "I need tips to manage anxiety," indicating a desire for practical tools. Users also emphasized the importance of having their activity history saved in the app, with one stating, "I want to have my activity history saved on the app."

Feels: Some users described feeling better after engaging in mental health tasks and taking care of their well-being. This indicates a sense of accomplishment and positive outcomes from using supportive tools. Other users expressed frustration and confusion when navigating certain apps, particularly when they found them difficult to use. This feeling of being "lost" suggests a need for clearer, more intuitive interfaces in mental health apps.

Does: Some users do mental health tasks offline due to a lack of suitable apps, indicating a gap in the digital market. Others reported stopping the use of mental health apps because of disturbing interfaces.

Storyboard

The storyboard visualizes the user's journey, highlighting their problem and the solution provided by the design. It captures key moments where the user faces challenges and illustrates how the proposed solution effectively addresses their needs.

User flow

The user flow highlights the main functions of the app, mapping out the key steps users take to accomplish their goals.

Wireframing

Then, I started wireframing to create low-fidelity designs after sketching, focusing on the layout and structure of the app to establish a clear visual hierarchy and user-friendly interface.
